IEEE CSDP CSDA Exam Study Guide A study guide for the IEEE CSDP/CSDA software engineering certificate exam --- the CD version Volume I, Second Edition (Volume II is an accompanying CD) This Second edition of the software engineering certificate training course is applicable to both the CSDP and the CSDA exams even though sometimes we may only refer to the CSDP exam. The purpose of this training course is listed in the following six subparagraphs: • First, this course is designed to prepare you, the reader, to pass the IEEE CSDP or CSDA exam, which is part of the qualification for the CSDP or the CSDA certification. It is not a general course in software engineering, but is tailored to those areas that have a high probability of generating exam questions. • Second, you may use the material on this CD to read and/or listen to the recording as a means of improving the reader’s skill in software engineering in preparing for a state required exam in order to be li-censed as a “software engineer.” (For example, Texas licenses soft-ware engineers.) • Third, neither the author of the course nor any other instructor has seen the exam. The IEEE does not want to be accused of teaching the exam. Whether or not you pass the CSDP/CSDA exam is dependent upon your software engineering experience and knowledge. • Fourth, this course was based on the CSDP exam specifications furnished by the Computer Society’s CSDP Certification Committee. These are the same specifications that were used by the exam writers. It is assumed that the exam writers and course author have arrived at the same interpretation of the exam specifications. • Fifth, this course does not contain all the information necessary to pass the exam. Five days (the live lecture equivalent) is an insufficient amount of time to impart to you a discipline as complicated as soft-ware engineering. This course provides a detailed outline of the exam specifications, basic definitions in the field of software engineering based on these specifications, and pointers to other references that you can use while studying in preparation for the CSDP exam. • Sixth, the original live-lecture course is a 3-day seminar where ques-tions are encouraged and in some cases answers from compatriots who are also taking the course. This of course is not possible with a DVD or CD course. We tried to compensate by giving you extra material. This resulted in a course that if given live would take approximately 5 days.
